Palladian

$2,400.00

The Palladian is a Westminster strike wall clock in the Palladian style, which became widespread in England during the 18thcentury. Adreas Palladio, a 16thcentury architect who founded the style, focused on recreating the style and proportions of ancient Roman buildings.  The Palladian wall clock plays homage to the designer through its use of understated decorative elements and use of classical orders through symmetry.

The Palladian style case is made of hand polished oak with Olive Burr veneers and has inlaid “ebonized” stringing.  A secret compartment at the bottom of the case is a perfect spot to store the key.  The dial has an enamel finish and is printed with the logo of Comitti.  The hands are period correct and made of a thick steel with black coating.  The metal fittings including bezel, door knob, and Gridiron style pendulum are a polished nickel siver.

The 8 day key wound movement chimes the Westminster melody every fifteen minutes as well as an hour count on the hour.  The three keyholes are wound once a week and work together to operate the clock (left keyhole chimes the hour count, center keyhole turns the hands (and swings the pendulum) and the right powers the fifteen minute melody). The movement also allows for the chime to be silenced as well as shut off at night for light sleepers.

Made in England.
